![]() It is not matter of if your vehicle will be damaged it is a matter of when. Should you rent your car to a stranger? Maybe, depending on how you might answer the following questions: Are you able to detach yourself emotionally from your vehicle? # Different liabilities - including variability amongst state laws - open the doors for heightened risk. Car drove fine and didn't give any problems. While some draw comparisons to Airbnb (but for cars), Turo is much different from modern peer-sharing apps. So all in all we probably spent additional $50-60 in Uber/Lyft for getting to and from cars location instead of it being in the airport, and lost about 3+ hours for dealing with additional unplanned travel. * Of course, additional expense of Uber/Lyft after return drop-off as we weren't dropping it off at the airport as originally planned. We refused (as it didn't seem right, given that Turo is the one that manages that aspect) and he backed off. The owner requested that we send him picture of drivers license directly to him. * We also added additional driver thru Turo and let the owner know. Worst part was that windshield was dirty on the inside that was minor unpleasant at daytime, but as driving progressed into night time, it was quite significant as it was blurring lights and affected visibility substantially. Crumbs on floor and seats and luggage compartment. * And while the car wasn't too dirty, it wasn't clean to begin with (which made detailing request that more amusingly odd). We pushed back and the owner backed off saying that he'll let it go due to confusion with pickup location (and apparently he didn't send some email that he was supposed to send, or something along those lines). We neither planned on looking for car detailing places in Portland, nor for time that it would take away from sightseeing, nor for extra substantial expense it would be. * Then owner requested that prior to return we take the car to be washed and cleaned inside and out. Then try mailbox? - Yes, they're there." The owner wasn't there, which is okay to do this all remote, but would be nicer if owner was in general "on top of things" such as where the car is and where it is expected to be picked up, where exactly are its keys, etc. * When we got there, we called the owner to get the keys: "- Keys are under front door's floormat. So additional expense of taking Uber/Lyft to get to the car (and apparently that address exists in two neighboring towns, and somehow Uber/Lyft took us first to the wrong one, so we had to take another ride, but that's not a Turo issue, just more expense as a consequence of car not being at the airport as promised). We called the owner, and turned out that the car is at some house that's "not far" from the airport, and gave us new address. When we got there, it turned out that the car is not at the airport, and the address given to us turned out to be what seemed to be Portland's airport Fire Rescue Tower (where, obviously, we can't even walk to or be at). However, there were some "surprises" where things didn't quite got as we expected: * We made rental reservation with expectation that we're picking up at the airport. In general it was okay - we made it to where we were going and back, with no major issues. Jun 2022 It was the first time we rented via Turo, so I don't have a good base reference to compare in general, and can only compare to car rental experiences with commercial fleets (like Budget or Enterprise). Is this how your employees are trained? Do you think most people are just going to shrug it off because they are at an airport and really have no other choice? Never again with Enterprise. ![]() So what is the deal Enterprise? You tried to screw me coming and going. I asked for a manager and she finally took this phantom charge off my bill. 3 days of taxes at $48 is $16/day, and she could not tell my why the taxes would be $140 for 1 extra day. I showed her my original reservation which showed $86/day and a total of $48 for 3 days of taxes. This time, the agent was trying to tell me that taxes for 1 extra day was over $100. When I dropped the car off, it was over a $200 difference again. I called Enterprise and it was confirmed that there was nothing in my reservation that had ever indicated drop off at a different location, and I was advised to call on a Monday to get it resolved. The agent could not figure out why, and then suggested that it was because my drop off location was different, which it was not, Pick up and drop off were at SLC airport. At pickup, I was charged $206 more than what my reservation was for. I will never use Enterprise again and am already advising my friends and family of the terrible experience I had. Cons: Staff was awful, both at pick up and drop off.
